Foxconn To Build The World's Largest Chip Plant In Mexico

Published on October 13, 2024

October 13, 2024 - Foxconn Technology Group, the world's largest contract electronics manufacturer and Apple's biggest iPhone assembler, has announced plans to build the world's largest chip manufacturing facility in Mexico. The facility will focus on producing Nvidia's GB200 superchips, a key component of Nvidia's next-generation Blackwell computing platform.

Nvidia's GB200 superchip is a groundbreaking component of their next-generation Blackwell computing platform. The GB200 connects 36 Grace CPUs and 72 Blackwell GPUs in a rack-scale design, creating a powerful, liquid-cooled system that delivers 30 times faster real-time trillion-parameter model inference. This superchip is designed to unlock the potential of real-time AI processing, making it a key player in advancing AI technologies.

Nvidia has already begun shipping Blackwell samples to partners and clients, with expectations of substantial revenue from these chips in the fourth quarter. The collaboration between Foxconn and Nvidia is seen as a significant step in meeting the growing demand for advanced AI systems.

This move by Foxconn highlights the company's strategic shift towards capitalizing on the AI boom, as it continues to expand its capabilities in assembling servers used to process AI tasks. The new facility is expected to create numerous job opportunities and boost the local economy in Guadalajara.
