Huawei Releases The Mate 60 Pro Smartphone

Published on September 1, 2023

On August 29, Huawei quietly made its Mate 60 Pro smartphone available for purchase on its official e-commerce website. This caught many tech analysts off guard, as the phone was originally rumored to become available for purchase around 2 weeks later.

A look at the phone

The Mate 60 Pro comes with a 2720 * 1260 resolution display, an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz, 12GB of RAM as well as options for either 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of internal storage. The phone also comes with the Harmony OS 4.0 operating system.

Some crucial parts of the hardware specifications, such as the processor model and its broadband connectivity capabilities, were not listed on the company's website. However, this didn't stop users who managed to get their hands on one of such devices to test them out. According to some user's reports, the processor seems to have a total of 8 cores, with 1 performance core clocked at 2.62 GHz, 3 smaller cores clocked at 2.15 GHz, and 4 even smaller efficiency cores clocked at 1.53 GHz.

Hardware information reported by the user

Some users reported seeing drastic slowdowns in network connectivity after disabling support for 5G from the carrier, which seems to indicate that the phone does possess at least some 5G capabilities. If accurate, this would be Huawei's first 5G phone in years.

In conclusion, the Mate 60 Pro is an interesting piece of hardware that seems to come with a lot of features worth investigating. It is also important to note, though, that the Pro model is very expensive, as is the case with almost any flagship smartphone nowadays. The model with 512GB of storage costs 6,999 CNY, or around 964 USD. However, it is expected that more budget-friendly options are coming up as well.
